Monologue Requirements:

Students will deliver short speeches on one of the following topics:

1st year students (2-4 mins)

• Я и мой мир

• Самый важный человек в моей жизни

• Город, где я никогда не буду жить

2nd year students (3-5 mins)

• В гостях хорошо, а дома лучше

• Мой любимый праздник

• Как трудно быть студентом!

3rd-4th year students (5-7 min)

• Легко ли быть молодым?

• Кто много видел, тот много знает

• Герой нашего времени

The speech will be evaluated based on its content, originality/creativity, the delivery, as well as grammatical and lexical accuracy. Participants are allowed to use notes written on one side of a 3X5 index card during their speech. The judges will ask three questions at the end of the speech based on its content.

Poetry Requirements:

For the Poetry Contest students need to submit a video recording of themselves reciting their poem. In the video, please introduce yourself and state which University you are from and then recite the poem. The video can be recorded on a phone, computer or other gadget. Please, try to record and save your video in one of the following formats: MP4, M4P, AVI, WMV, or MOV. Each video has to be saved as LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_UNIVERSITY_LEVEL(1/2/3/4), for example, SMITH_JOHN_HARVARD_2

Please, upload your file via this link https://www.dropbox.com/request/LdEXfVUGyDiI6y4Fwgrz?oref=e no later than April 3rd, 11:59pm EST. Late submission will not be considered. 

Other requirements: 

• Please make sure that the sound quality of your video and sound is good before you submit it. Please, record in a quiet space.

• The camera should be set far enough from you so that judges could see your entire body, from feet up to your face.

• You may not have notes on you or anywhere else. You may not read your poem. Judges will see if you are reading.  

• The recording has to be done “in one take” from beginning to the end.

You can chose one poem from the list of suggested poems, this website, or your own with consultation of your instructor.
